Day Five Hundred and Nine of Unemployment-Fifty and Unemployed

Woke to Gloriously Sunny Day

I was really happy to see the sun this morning. I ran to my friend’s to pick up my keys. They hold an extra set for me. Because of security issues, our building is re-keying the outer door. I have to get my two sets of keys from my friends so I can exchange them for new keys.

Ran to Class

Although my Achilles tendon was giving me pain, I resolved to run to class, especially since the weather was so nice. I managed to zone out any pain or pressure and just enjoy the scenery.

I heard on the news that Vancouver has had over two weeks of consecutive non-rain days. Considering that this is October already, that is quite a big deal to us! When it’s not raining, I can run faster and am not distracted with the rain and wet ground. Running in sunny weather does really make me happier, too.

Clutter Organization Class

We had a full house at the clutter class today. Usually one or two people are missing for whatever reason. I have not missed a class. At this point, I’m really trying to make an effort to go because any encouragement that I might get to deal with my clutter problem the better.

I didn’t get to do as much organizing as I had hoped to do this week. I also failed miserably in trying to stop myself from acquiring new things to add to the clutter in my home. We are required to document our progress. I don’t know why I seem to revel in acquiring things. Our class pointed out that it didn’t matter if we acquired free things or spent money for things, it was the accumulation that was the problem.

Quite a few psychological issues of mine have been revealed because of my hoarding problem. I have always had a mild OCD problem. I get all frustrated because my quest for perfectionism makes me dwell on the organizational aspect of it instead of the disposing of things right away. I also have an ADHD problem. I will try to work on organizing and disposing but will get distracted with something else, causing me to abandon the job at hand. Most of us in the class have these and other problems.

Ran to Massage Therapy Appointment

After class, I ran straight downtown for my appointment at the massage therapy academy. It was a little more crowded on the sidewalks because it was after school and work for some people. It was still a beautiful sunny day by the time I got there.

I was lucky to get a free appointment with one of the students. Tonight’s student is more advanced than my previous ones. She will complete the program in just two months. I could tell the difference right away. Whereas the other students were a little more hesitant, this one knew right away what the therapy would be for my Achilles tendon and hamstring pain. She had the confidence to do the massage therapy quickly and unhesitatingly. I did feel better at the end of the session.

Attended Opening of The Running Room

I rushed to my neighborhood to go to the opening of The Running Room store. There was a run, a 5 K or 2.5 K. It would cost $10 and all the proceeds would be going to charity. In the end I did not sign up since this massage therapy appointment came up.

I went to the opening to finally meet the founder of The Running Room, John Stanton. The Running Room is a retail store for runners. It sells everything you could ever imagine needing for running. There are several stores and he flies all over visiting races and stores. He’s also a best-selling author of running books, of which I have a few. He is really a running visionary and I had wanted to meet him for a long time.

He was a very nice guy and I took a few photos. I told him that I couldn’t race because of my injuries and he presented me with a medal anyway. I was really thrilled to meet him and I’m glad that I came to this opening.

Hope Turns to Reality with Amazon

Yesterday, I had been so excited about the prospect of working for Amazon in downtown Vancouver! Today, news reports said that there would be 100 job openings, not the 1000. I was disappointed.

I went to the job postings page again and was dismayed to see only the highly technical jobs there. I wondered if they would ever post any support jobs. How could a huge building like that only house highly technical IT jobs?

Still, I’m going to keep watch on the website. Although they might only be initially hiring 100 people, they building does have capacity for 1000. Surely I could find some job that I’m be appropriate for! I can only hope.
